As the capital of New York, Albany also delivers on capital shopping delights. Historic neighborhoods are filled with specialty shops, and malls offers hundreds of options from department stores like Macy’s, Filene’s and JCPenney to smaller retailers like J Crew and Ann Taylor. Reminiscent of by-gone era outdoor markets, Stuyvesant Plaza features more than 60 spots to shop from whimsical boutiques to leading apparel stores like Coldwater Creek, Talbot’s and Chico’s. Colonie Center, with more than 120 stores including the Christmas Tree Shop, is anchored by Macy’s and Boscov’s. Crossgate Mall, (with a required parental/guardian escort policy for the under age 18 set on Friday and Saturday between 4 p.m. and closing) serves as a magnet with more than 250 department stores, restaurants, specialty shops and 18 Regal Cinemas. Huck Finn’s Warehouse carries everything for the home including Huck Baby Furnishings at warehouse prices. The Chocolate Gecko, a gourmet chocolate shop, specializes in all natural confections and dipped fruit platters.

For New York’s finest cheeses, McCadam Cheese Company, on Home Farm Way and established in 1876, produces some 20 different varieties from Muenster to Adirondack Reserve Cheddar. Brewery Ommegang, produces award-winning bottle-conditioned Belgian style ales, while offering tours and tastings to spur retail sales.
